{¶ 1} Relators, 12 present and former Franklin County Assistant Public Defenders and support personnel hired between January 1, 1985, and January 1, 1999, bring this original action for a writ of mandamus ordering respondent, Public Employees Retirement Board (“PERB”), to vacate its determination that relators were not public employees during the period between January 1, 1985, and January 1, 1999, and, thus, were not entitled to service credit during that period under the Public Employees Retirement System (“PERS”).
