After a jury trial, the defendant, Stephen Coney, was convicted of one count of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a),1 and one count of criminal possession of a pistol or revolver in violation of General Statutes § 53a-217c (a).2 The trial court sentenced the defendant to a term of fifty-five years imprisonment on the count of murder and a consecutive five year term of imprisonment on the weapons possession count, for a total effective sentence of sixty years imprisonment.
