BENTON, J.

On rehearing en banc,1 Thomas McGuinn seeks reinstatement of an award entered by the Industrial Commission but subsequently overturned by a panel of this court in National Linen Service v. McGuinn, 3 Va. App. 73, 348 S.E.2d 42 (1986). *267For the reasons which follow, we affirm the decision of the commission.
