OPINION
DROWOTA, Judge.
The defendant, Trade Reeves, appeals from the Court of Appeals’ affirmance of the trial court’s order designating her a delinquent child. The trial court’s delinquency order, which was entered following a jury trial, was based on the jury’s finding that the defendant had attempted to commit second degree murder — a violation of Tenn.Code Ann. § 39-12-101. The specific issue for our determination is whether the defendant’s actions constitute a “substantial step,” under § 39-12~101(a)(3), toward the commission of that crime.
