Long Distance International, Inc. v. Telefonos De Mexico, S.A. De C.V.

Texas Supreme Court

Decided June 14, 2001No. 00-0229PublishedCited by 52 opinions

1Opinion of the CourtJustice Baker

This case involves two issues: (1) whether the plaintiffs contracts with Mexican customers in this case violated Mexican law, and, if so, (2) whether that illegality is a defense to the plaintiffs claims. Because we hold that the plaintiffs contracts did not violate Mexican law, we do not reach the second issue. Accordingly, we reverse the court of appeals’ judgment and remand the cause to that court to determine whether any other asserted ground supports the trial court’s summary-judgment order.
