MITCHELL, Justice.

The pivotal issue in this case is whether the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act provides the exclusive remedy when *711an employee is injured in the course of his employment by the willful, wanton and reckless conduct of a co-employee. We hold that it does not and that an employee may bring an action against the co-employee for injuries received as a result of such conduct. Accordingly, we reverse the decision of the Court of Appeals.
