KONENKAMP, Justice.

[¶ 1.] This is a criminal appeal from a judgment of conviction for kidnapping and second-degree rape. We affirm.

Background

[¶ 2.] M.H.L. arose shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 1999, to prepare for her morning paper route in Rapid City, South Dakota. 1 After dressing warmly against the winter cold, she left her apartment at the Corral Motel, where she was residing with her mother and younger brother.
