Appellants Gregory McNeil, James Chaney, and Reginald Porter, along with others not parties to this appeal, were convicted of conspiring to distribute heroin, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846, and of various substantive offenses in furtherance thereof. Their primary contention on appeal is that their convictions were obtained in violation of their right to a speedy trial, as guaranteed by the Speedy Trial Act of 1974, 18 U.S.C. §§ 3161 et seq., and the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution.
