Plaintiff Lee Hartwell, who claims he was unlawfully demoted within the City of Montgomery Fire Department, brings this lawsuit alleging a violation of his First Amendment right to free speech, as enforced through the Fourteenth Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, as well as a state-law claim challenging the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his demotion.
