EVERETT, Chief Judge:

Appellant was tried by a general court-martial with members on a charge and specification alleging assault with intent to murder “by repeatedly stabbing ... [the named victim] with a knife.” The court-martial ultimately convicted appellant of the lesser-included offense of assault with intent to commit voluntary manslaughter and sentenced him to a dishonorable discharge, confinement at hard labor for 5 years, total forfeitures, and reduction to *265the lowest enlisted grade.
