The plaintiff Pioneer Credit Corporation brings this appeal from an affirmative judgment for the defendants on counter claims in consolidated actions in the Addison County Court. The actions were commenced by the plaintiff against Howard and Winifred Carden of Hancock, Vermont to recover on two promissory notes. The defendants pleaded that the notes were usurious “being in excess of the legal rate of interest in Vermont — By way of set-off, the defendants claimed aggregate damages under the Vermont statute in the amount of $22,500.
