This case is an appeal from a judgment of the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas. Appellants Brenda Knop, Frank Knop, Kristina Russell and Antoinette Russell (collectively, “the Knops”) are appealing the grant of a directed verdict, rendered at the conclusion of the opening statement, as to appellees Jerry P. Gears, Charles J. Hymore, Wendell P. Smith, Daniel M. Schultz, Sr., William J. Gast, Michael D. Riddle and Timothy J. Noble.
