OPINION OF THE COURT
VAN DUSEN, Senior Circuit Judge.
The defendant, Alan Dale Górecki, appeals from his conviction by a jury for violations of 21 U.S.C. § 841 (possession of cocaine with intent to distribute) and 26 U.S.C. § 5861(d) (unlawful possession of a weapon). The basis of appeal is defendant’s claim that (1) the district court erred in refusing to sever the two counts under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 8(a), or (2) the district court abused its discretion in refusing to sever the two counts under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 14.
