Defendant was tried in the district court upon the complaint of Helga Nelson, charging him with being the father of her illegitimate child. He Avas found guilty and appeals from an order denying his motion for a new trial.

Errors are assigned upon rulings on evidence on cross-examination of the witness Alberta Campbell. This witness was «called by defendant and testified on direct- examination that she had a conversation with Helga Nelson, the complainant, and that complainant told the witness that one “Curley” Avas responsible for her condition.
