Michael J. Keener was tried for the murder of his 80-year-old-aunt, was found guilty but mentally ill, and was sentenced to life in prison. He appeals.

On the afternoon of January 2, 1984, Mrs. Ola Nicholson went to look in on her neighbor, the victim, Evie Keener, but was greeted at the door by the defendant, a nephew who had lived with the victim for 7 to 8 years.
