Bear Butte is a mountain formation seven miles northeast of Sturgis, South Dako ta. It is a site of great spiritual significance for certain Native American tribes. In February 2003, six tribes and an unincorporated association (collectively, “the Tribes”) commenced this action against multiple defendants, seeking to enjoin construction of a shooting range near Bear Butte.
