Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Broome County (Smith, J.), rendered September 3, 1996, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crime of robbery in the first degree.

A person is guilty of robbery in the first degree when, inter alia, he or she forcibly steals property and “[d]isplays what appears to be a pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, machine gun or other firearm” (Penal Law § 160.15 [4]).
