BAZELON, Senior Circuit Judge:

Two civil rights organizations contend for the right to use the initials “NAACP” as their trademark. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (the Association) alleges that the continued use of the NAACP initials by the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. (the LDF) constitutes a trademark infringement. 1 The LDF replies that the Association irrevocably granted it the right to use the initials.
