The defendant was found guilty, after a jury trial, of vehicular assault in the second degree, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and reckless endangerment in the first degree. The conviction stemmed from an incident which occurred on the evening of March 19, 1992, when defendant, while driving along Prospect Parkway in an intoxicated condition, struck an individual, severing one of his legs and permanently disabling his other leg.
