This appeal from the bankruptcy court considers whether the automatic stay that takes effect upon a bankruptcy filing bars the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) and various state attorneys general from commencing or continuing lawsuits against the debtors for violations of consumer protection and fair lending laws.
