CUDAHY, Circuit Judge.
Plaintiff, Jose Santiago, appeals from a summary judgment in his 42 U.S.C. § 1983 action against various officers of the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating his Eighth Amendment right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment. Plaintiffs charges stem largely from two brutal attacks he suffered at the hands of other inmates while incarcerated in the Illinois prison system.
