Omolulu Valen Ademodi appeals from a reversal of the district court’s grant of his petition for postconviction relief. Ademodi petitioned the district court to vacate his 1990 conviction for aiding and abetting a controlled substance crime in the first degree. Ademodi argued that, as a Nigerian national, he was entitled to consular notification under Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations1 (Vienna Convention) and in the absence of such notification his conviction must be vacated and set aside.
