On January 15, 1940, on the petition of a sister-in-law, a proceeding was commenced for the appointment of a committee of the person and property of Edwin J. Long, an alleged incompetent. On January 22, 1940, the alleged incompetent retained Harry H. Goebel and Jacob Goebel to represent him in the proceeding, and they filed a notice of appearance. The retainer was in writing, signed by the alleged incompetent. It provided for the payment of a fee of $5,000, of which $1,000 had been paid on account and the balance was to be paid within a week.
