FRIEDMAN, Judge.

Karen V. Daneker appeals from an order of the State Employes’ Retirement Board (SERB) granting her a non-permanent disability retirement annuity but basing those benefits on a non-service connected disability. In an issue of first impression before this court, we must determine whether, under the State Employees’ Retirement Code (Code), 71 Pa.C.S. §§ 5101-5956, and the regulations promulgated thereunder, the SERB may grant service connected disability retirement benefits to a claimant without a prior award to that claimant under The Pennsylvania Workmen’s Compensation Act…
