On the 16th day of November, 1900, Samuel Sheppard was convicted in the circuit court'of Wirt County of one of the foulest and most brutal murders recorded in the annals of crime. On .or about the first day 'of April, 1900, he had been married to Allie Gorrell. She and her little boy, Lee Gorrell, an illegitimate child, aged about seven years, were the victims of this crime, which occurred at the-home of Samuel Sheppard on the night of Tuesday the 21st day of August, 1900.
