JOHNSON, PRESIDENT:

On the 2d day of March, 1882, James A. Greer was indicted in the circuit court of Jackson county for the murder of Robert G. Maguire on the 19th of January, 1882. On the 6th day of November, 1882, a jury was empaneled to try the case on the issue found; and on the 18th day of the same month the jury rendered the following verdict: “We the jury find the prisoner, James A.
