FABE, Chief Justice.

I. INTRODUCTION

The superior court in Alaska declined to exercise its home state jurisdiction in an initial child custody determination, holding that New Mexico was a more convenient forum to decide the custody issue. The child's father appeals, arguing that the court erred in failing to hold a hearing on the motion to decline jurisdiction and in declining to exercise custody jurisdiction.
