Following a jury trial, defendant, Efren Aguilar, was found guilty of first degree murder in the shooting death of Brandon McClelland. The trial court sentenced defendant to 50 years’ imprisonment — 25 years on the first degree murder conviction and an additional 25 years for using a firearm during the offense. The trial court denied defendant’s motion for a judgment of acquittal notwithstanding the verdict or a new trial and his motion to reconsider the sentence.
