OPINION OF THE COURT

Goldstein, J.

At issue here is whether the plaintiffs have stated causes of action against the appellant Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn sounding in negligent hiring, negligent retention, and negligent supervision. We find that their allegations with *161respect to negligent retention and negligent supervision are sufficient to withstand the appellant’s cross motion to dismiss the complaint pursuant to CPLR 3211 (a) (7), but that they do not have a cause of action to recover damages for negligent hiring.
