Findings of Fact

1. The S/S Mariposa is a single screw, steam turbine cargo vessel of Liberian registry, 6,113 gross tons, 3,524 net tons, 476.2 feet overall length, 60.7 feet beam, with an authorized tropical fresh water draft of 26 feet 5% inches. On the day of the accident the vessel was approximately on her marks. The vessel was powered by a main propulsion engine consisting of a steam reciprocating unit and a low pressure turbine unit utilizing the exhaust from the reciprocating unit.
