NORCROSS, District Judge.

This is a suit by the United States government against tbe appellant to recover the sum of $9,000, together with interest and costs. Suit is based upon the following facts:

Prior to April 30, 1920, one George Pick, owner of $3,000 par value registered Victory notes, and one Andrew Cantrall, owner of $6,000 par value of such notes, had deposited. the same with the Bank of Jacksonville, state of Oregon, for safe-keeping. Subsequent to such deposits, and during the months of March and April, 1920, the cashier of the said Bank of Jacksonville forged the names of the owners…
