Introduction

This is a defamation suit based on an article published in the Bennington Banner on April 22, 1981. The plaintiffs, New York residents, Alfred M. Stone and Anthony S. LaPiana claim that this article was defamatory and injured their reputation to the extent that they could no longer do business in Bennington and other areas in Vermont.
