On May 2, 1969, James Leroy Iverson was found guilty by a jury in the District Court, Grand Forks County, of the crime of murder in the first degree of Diane Patricia Bill and of the crime of murder in the second degree of Carol Mayers, the two cases having been consolidated for trial. On May 9, 1969, Iverson was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor for murder in the first degree and to an indeterminate *11sentence of imprisonment at hard labor from twenty-five to thirty years for murder in the second degree, the sentences to run concurrently.
