This is an action brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 in which plaintiff Derrick McNair, an inmate of the Rikers Island Correctional Facility, charges various officials and employees of the New York City Department of Corrections with violating his civil rights. Specifically, Mr. McNair alleges that corrections officers subjected him to religious persecution by desecrating religious articles and preventing him from attending the services of his faith.
