OPINION

WEISBERGER, Chief Justice.

This case comes before the court on the appeal of the defendant, Charles Cote, from a judgment of conviction entered in the Superior Court upon a jury verdict finding him guilty of four counts of first-degree sexual assault in violation of G.L.1956 § 11-37-2. 1 The trial justice denied the defendant’s motion for a new trial and sentenced him to sixty years’ imprisonment on each count, with forty years to serve, twenty years suspended, and twenty years’ probation.
