OPINION

MURRAY, Justice.

This is a consolidated appeal by Local No. 2883, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (the union), from orders of the Superior. Court denying the union’s motion to confirm an August 2, 1978 arbitration award and granting the state’s motion to vacate the award. The award had ordered the reinstatement of Dr. John Smith to the position of superintendent of the Dr. Joseph H. Ladd School retroactive to the date of his dismissal, January 25, 1978.
