Re, Chief Judge:

The question presented in this case pertains to the proper classification of certain merchandise described on the customs invoice as “glass rods (stems)” used in the manufacture of clinical thermometers. It must be noted at the outset that the merchandise, the classification of which is in issue, consists of glass rods or stems in lengths of approximately 120 centimeters, or 48 inches long, which may vary from 3 to 4 inches in length.
