Charles O. Williams was found guilty by a jury in Recorder’s Court for the City of Detroit on November 9, 1967, of felonious assault1 and robbery armed.2 The Court of Appeals affirmed. 26 Mich App 46. On the day the trial began, defendant’s counsel, Mr. Monash, made request that he be allowed to withdraw because the defendant Williams had retained a Mr. Goldfarb as his counsel. The trial court denied the motion and ruled that no continuance would be granted to allow a substitution of counsel and that the case must proceed to trial with Mr. Monash serving as defendant’s counsel.
