On May 15, 1984, the minor son of plaintiff-appellee Marguerite King was injured when the moped he was riding was struck by a vehicle operated by an uninsured motorist. On May 8, 1986, King brought an action on behalf of her son and herself against the uninsured motorist, defendant Timothy Cottingham, and her insurance carrier, defendant-appellant Safeco Insurance Company (“Safeco”).
