BRYANT, Judge.

American National Can Company, Inc. 1 (employer-defendant) and Gallagher Bassett Services (carrier-defendant), collectively defendants, appeal from an opinion and award of the North Carolina Industrial Commission (Commission) dated 6 August 2003 awarding David N. Weatherford (plaintiff) ongoing total disability compensation after 1 July 2000 as a result of his work related knee injuries.
