VALLÉE, J.
The chief deputy city clerk of Los Angeles discharged petitioner from his position as an accountant in the field audit section of the license and sales tax division of the office of the city clerk, a position in the classified civil service. Petitioner occupied the position from June 21, 1948, until he was discharged on August 25, 1953. Petitioner filed with the board of civil service commissioners, referred to as the board, a request for an investigation into the propriety of his discharge. (Stats., 1945, ch. 102, p. 3102.)
