After extended efforts, the School Committee of Boston and the Boston Teachers Union found *606themselves unable to resolve their differences in negotiating collective bargaining agreements for the school year 1974-1975. Accordingly, they agreed to submit the outstanding items to “interest” arbitration under G. L. c. 150E, § 9, fifth paragraph.4 Following lengthy hearings, the arbitrator made his award on these items.
