The defendants-appellees in this case are the underwriters for one or more securities offerings made by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (“Freddie Mac”) and the Federal National Mortgage Association (“Fannie Mae”). Between 1991 and 1994, Freddie Mae, a federally chartered, sponsored, and regulated corporation, see 12 U.S.C. §§ 1451-1459 (1997), issued securities described as Multiclass Mortgage Participation Certificates and Multiclass Mortgage Securities (“Collateralized Mortgage Obligations”).
