Plaintiffs-appellees 1 are members of the Islamic faith and are incarcerated at the Iowa State Penitentiary. On December 3, 1980, they filed a complaint pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983, alleging numerous claims against officials of the penitentiary for violation of the inmates’ rights to exercise their religion. The inmates sought money damages and injunctive relief.
