GBAHAM, Judge.

The determinative question on this appeal is whether plaintiffs’ complaints are sufficient under Buie 8(a) of the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure (G.S. 1A-1) to withstand defendants’ motion to dismiss pursuant to Rule 12(b) (6) for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted.

Rule 8(a) provides:

“Claims for relief. — A pleading which sets forth a claim for relief, whether an original claim, counterclaim, cross-claim, or third-party claim, shall contain(1) A short and plain statement of the claim sufficiently particular to give the court and the parties notice…
