These claims were filed to recover damages sustained by claimants alleged to have been caused by the negligence of the State of New York, due to improper maintenance of State Highway Route 57.
On December 25, 1956, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., claimants were proceeding southerly in the west lane along Route 57 *225in Louis Eckerlin’s Plymouth automobile driven by his wife, Ruth Eckerlin.
