The defendants in 1856, owned and operated a line of telegraph between Buffalo and New York, connecting at Buffalo with the line of the Western Union Telegraph Company to Chicago, and at Syracuse with a line to Oswego.

Appeal from the judgment of the General Term of the Supreme Court in the fifth judicial district, affirming a judgment for the plaintiff. The defendants in 1856, owned and operated a line of telegraph between Buffalo and New York, connecting at Buffalo with the line of the Western Union Telegraph Company to Chicago, and at Syracuse with a line to Oswego. The plaintiffs, at the same time, were manufacturers of, and dealers in salt, at Syracuse, and had agents, Magill & Pickering, at Chicago, and D. B. Staats was their agent at Oswego for shipping and disposing of them salt at that place.…
