The appellate court, one justice dissenting, determined certain proceedings held pursuant to section 5— 2 — 4 of the Unified Code of Corrections (the Code) (111. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 1005 — 2—4) in the circuit court of Lake County involving defendant, Steven F. Palmer, were void for lack of jurisdiction. (193 Ill. App. 3d 745.) The appellate court also concluded that the maximum period of involuntary commitment for an insanity acquittee could be based upon the extended-term sentencing statute of the Code (111. Rev.
