Thiele, J.:

This is an original proceeding in mandamus brought by plaintiff against the state board of canvassers to compel that board to permit plaintiff to examine certain affidavits returned to the secretary of state in connection with absentee ballots, and as more specifically referred to hereafter. Upon the filing of the application, we made a rule to the defendant to show cause why a peremptory writ should not issue. The defendant has filed its combined motion to quash and answer, and a number of electors have been permitted to intervene.
