Defendant, Ronnie Gipson, was convicted of conspiracy to pass a counterfeit United States Treasury check, passing a counterfeit Treasury check, and disposing of United States property without authority, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 472, 641 (1988). He was sentenced to three years imprisonment and one year probation. Gip-son filed a pro se habeas motion to vacate, set aside or correct sentence, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2255 (1988), contending, inter alia, that he was denied his Sixth Amendment right to effective assistance of counsel when his attorney failed…
